It's a nice break when everything else here gets a little overwhelming.
[ Sometimes familiarity is nice! But in they go, yippeeee...
Which as the pink clouds do their business, it shows what looks to be a quaint little town, though with a few immediate unusual oddities with it. There's a few scattered people on about, the world seeming to be drenched in monotone of black and white. Various little orb-shaped people(?) statuettes standing in the center slight hill, even a few smaller ones closer to the ground doing a little dance. Fun! Much farther in the distance the sky looks to be a more clearer dark black shade spreading with stars gleaming despite the town looking to be in the middle of the day. Weird.
This looks completely normal as far as Siffrin looks around, before back to Lucas. ] This is Dormont, it's a small village in the country of Vaugarde.
[ Points to the weird statues. ] That's their Change god.
[THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON THAT'S WEIRD TO HIM HERE. Though Lucas is also mostly just intrigued in that kinda glad way, always happy to be sharing something with someone else. He glances around, though, and his brow furrows just a touch.
He'll also look toward the Change god like "so many deities are sooo weirdly represented".]
I see... Are they worshipers? [Gesturing toward the dancing people!! He glances toward the swath of night sky, and then looks back toward Siffrin.] ...Is this the way it always looks?
[ The lil dancing people are actually.. surprise! Small toy-sized dancing little statues, based on the similar design as the more larger ones. ]
People that follow and love the Change belief like to make little statues of the Change god, use Craft to make them move. [ Glances over to the night sky area, that's so detached from the day sky that surrounds the small village here. ] ...Not exactly. Because of the King's curse, it's freezing everything it touches in time as it spreads, so you can tell where it's reached based by the lightless sky over there and show of stars. Making it night.
[ But no comment about why the world itself looks to be in black and white. There's not a single color to be seen. ]
[ No no, he should say it, Siffrin also thinks its such a weird way to celebrate? their god but okay. ]
I think so. I know because their god is always Changing its face, everyone has their own idea of what the Change god's face looks like. [ If you look a little closer, each of the different statues do have different faces! Some have dimples, some have multiple eyes, some have only a mouth, etc. ]
Around the time I was at... the day we go to face the King, by the time we reach him it'll definitely reach Dormont. [ Also looks at Lucas like he has two heads because uhh... ] ..."Color"?
[HELP both of them just looking at this like sure I guess y'all do you.]
Oh... [Oh...... WELL. The dolls are cute, at least. He'll scoot in a little to examine them, but he's pretty distracted by the REST OF THIS. He is definitely going to loop back around to Dormont and this King's curse, but he's so startled by this reaction to the word COLOR.]
...Color? [BLINKING. THE WAY THERE'S NO COLOR IN HERE AND NO COLOR ON SIFF AND HE'S ALSO WEARING SUCH A BLACK AND WHITE COLOR PALETTE. So instead he just brings up his braid so he can gesture to the silk tied to the end.]
[ There is a slight bit of familiarity like, is "color" a word he's heard before? Maybe? But nothing is coming to mind, hence their straight continued confusion. ]
...? [ Siffrin's hair sure is white with black ends, his entire wardrobe on top is a white hat and cloak, though black gloves can be seen. His eyepatch is also black, and even the single eye that can be seen is black but. Glances over to the braid that is gestured along with the silk.
Though, he does mutter the words "Green..?" and even "Gold" a little strangely. Like he isn't too sure how to say it. Weird mouth feel! Quietly, he shakes his head and points at the man's golden hair. ]
Light, almost darkless. [ Then to the silk next. ] Dark.
[Lucas, probably on the verge of finding out something super fucked up about this time-freezing curse that's consuming the cosmos or something: THIS FUCKING GNOME IS COLOR BLIND.]
...Ah! You can't see color...? ...Rather, it sounds and looks as though you don't have color in your home...?
Color...? [ Thinking, thinking... ] ...Um. I think it's mentioned in a book somewhere? Something about color? I think it used to be around a long, long time ago but... my world has always been this way. Especially for as long as I can remember..
[ They are so confused because UM... THEN THAT MEANS... LUCAS CAN? SEE COLOR?
(Oh stars, are you the only one that can't...? Can everyone else see???) ]
Oh! I see... I wonder what happened to it? [THE COLOR JUST EVAPORATED???? That's wild.] There really are all types of worlds out there...
[Meanwhile Lucas is just sitting here wondering if other people can't see color and he just assumed they CAN.]
So... the lack of color is normal, but the- [GAZING AT THE STARS.] -perpetual night isn't. Am I right to assume that you died on your way to face this King...?
[ Your guess is as good as theirs, Lucas. Considering Siffrin just helplessly shrugs. They don't know what happened to the color. An ancient phenomenon. ]
No, wherever the King's curse has reached seems to turn the area into perpetual night. [ A flinch at that last question. ] ..Yeah. Something like that.
Lucas immediately looks apologetic at the flinch, though.]
Ah, that was a bit blunt, wasn't it... I apologize, dear. [NOT EVERYONE IS AS CHILL ABOUT DYING AS HE IS AND HE FORGETS.] Are you aiming to return, then?
[ A shake of their head, nooo it's fine!! They're so normal about dying actually. ]
I have to go back. My group, my friends, they would likely have gone on without me and - [ Their breath hitches, bringing a hand to their chest and taking a deep breath in... and out. ] ..I need to go back.
Ah, though. Friends in danger. He's quiet, but nods solemnly.]
I understand. Then, I hope that these eight weeks pass by quickly for you... I can only imagine how difficult it is, being left in the middle of such a harrowing thing.
It's okay. [ It isn't! But they have to be fine. They have to be. For a moment, they look around the small village, until towards a building. There's probably a sign on it that says LIBRARY but it's in fantasy french language.
In front of it, on the bench is a young woman looking to be busily looking through some papers. Only slightly shorter than Siffrin, her demeanor looks very polite, and mild-mannered. Ah. ]
..Over there is one of them, that's Mirabelle. She's a Housemaiden under the Change belief. She's incredibly kind and overthinks a lot when she gets anxious but.. she's someone you can rely on for anything. You'd get along well with her, and I know she'd love to share her beliefs with you.
me looking at this person like i don't know anything ABOUT THIS CANON i have NO IDEA IF SHE'S NORMAL OR IF SHE'S INSANE. Fortunately Lucas doesn't find anything sus here since she just looks like a perfectly pleasant girl, and if Sif likes her, then he is also inclined to like her!]
Ah! I see... She sounds very sweet. The two of you are friends, then? Have you known each other very long?
[ believe me when i say siffrin's friends are so normal "what about siffrin" anyway Mirabelle just looks under some stress, but in that she's trying to not worry anyone else with it. Sweet sweet Mirabelle. ]
I was traveling alone when I came across them months ago, she was already traveling with Isabeau and Odile, trying to get the orbs necessary to open the House's gates and defeat the King. I helped them fight a monster off and they asked for my help so I joined them.
They really just wholeass wandered into this party, huh. His brows rise a bit, reflecting his surprise.]
Months ago? It sounds like you've really involved yourself in quite a situation in the span of months... But I'm certain they were grateful for you to join them. It sounds like no easy task to conquer alone.
Traveling with others does sound much more pleasant.
[And if that happy look is anything to go by, he guesses they agree. But! He also just kind of assumes the sad look has something to do with DYING, so he'll leave it for the time being. Instead:]
Will you tell me a little more about them? These friends of yours.
[ The dying life is truly rough fr on god no cap. ]
..There's five of us in the group. I told you about Mirabelle. [ With a gesture to follow, they go to the next building over to the left which has a sign that reads in Vaugardian THE FANTASY FRENCH "Shop." As they go in, it is in fact a shop. Towards the back, there is what looks to be a Japanese lady, oldge (she looks in her forties.) ]
That's Odile, the oldest of the group. [ Which I think is funny that after her Siffrin is the second oldest. The Mid/Late twenties fella. Odile looks over, her voice sounding softly as if just realizing that they're there, "Oh, Siffrin. You look rested. Glad to see you this laidback on the day before the end of the world." But it just an NPC line since Odile seems to go back to how she was before, browsing the shelves.
(...) ] She came from Ka Bue, doing a lot of traveling like me. She's very perceptive, curious, and though she looks like and pretends she doesn't care... she cares quite a lot.
[ ...Their chest hurts. They miss their friends, their family. ]
But he'll step and look around, taking in the details in a quietly interested sort of way. New places... New people... Still wild as hell that nothing has colors but it's fine.]
Ah, I see. [Even though Odile is not actually here, he'll just give her a polite little nod anyway.] She does sound like quite the person to know... Blunt with her words as well, perhaps?
no subject
The way his curiosity is immediately piqued, though!]
Would it be a terrible trouble? I wouldn't want to interrupt your break, but I do so love being able to see what others conjure up...
no subject
I've been out here for a bit. [ So they've been on a break for a while? And.. ] Since you're here, why not?
[ Gonna get up and head right into the cave. Just expects him to follow!! ]
no subject
This room really is quite amazing, isn't it? I could spend far too long in it...

A curse... Will it reach this place, too...? Is that why the color is gone...?
