He can't really afford to let the sorrow of so many unwanted partings bog him down, considering all he still has to do, but it's weighty. It is a weighty thing, and it would overwhelm him if he gave it too much of a foothold in his mind.

Not really fully understanding the situation they're returning to; knowing enough to be concerned, but not enough to feel as though this will be a true and final parting. Still, the last thing he wants to do is leave people feeling heavy on the cusp of goodbye, so he gives their hands a little squeeze and offers a bright smile.]
I'm blessed to have such an abundance of lovely stories, but even more blessed to have had you in my life so that I could learn them. Our time together may have been short in the grand scheme, but every moment of it was precious to me.
