[ siff has been kind to him on the moments since the midtrial, and it’s not something yves has lost sight of. but in their first interaction away from the hustle and bustle of it all, the uncertainty he feels is obvious. a nervousness and conscientiousness of the people around him.
the vibes today are better than where they were yesterday, so it’s only a small pause before he places his hand in siff’s ]
Ah… I’m okay. [ he says the same thing all the time ] Laurence is the one that needs to be fussed over today so…
… are you okay, Siff? With me?
[ wondering and also prepared for a different answer ]
[ That hand comes into their own, and their fingers curl around securely, reassuringly. Offering a small smile even despite those feelings they can feel from him. It isn't that Siffrin doesn't understand. It's probably a bit scary for others, to some, but Siffrin couldn't become afraid of Yves. Probably with their own experience in mind. There's the feeling of a gentle warmth there towards him. ]
Mm. [ A soft noise of acknowledgement. Yeah, he expected that answer. ] He does but he's.. sorta like Bonnie. Gets annoyed at too much fussing, but appreciates it anyway.
[ As that question comes, Siffrin blinks a bit with a tilt of their head and there's a brief blip of confusion. (..Ah.) Before bringing his other hand up as well to gently sandwich Yves own between their two. ]
Of course I am. No matter what, I'll always trust you.
[ . . . he's not sure what to do with that and it shows. the uncertainty. the confusion. he hurt someone, and he's still being trusted? how is that possible? maybe it speaks to yves' own experience, how he was treated on his island. to be hated for much smaller things than this, and yet to be forgiven here. ]
... it's okay if one day you stop. [ tentatively, like he's trying to be gentle about his expectations ]
I don't expect to be forgiven for who I am or what I've done.
[ There's a pause, quiet, their brows furrowing a little but there's no hurt from those words. A small shake of their head comes after. The uncertainty is valid. Shouldn't someone be more hesitant? Cautious? Not Siffrin though. ]
I won't stop. [ And the amount of confidence that comes with those words.. Does that make them seem awful? A thumb gently presses against his palm, a light tap. ]
If it wasn't you, it would have been someone else. [ Siffrin would be willing to act on it if it came down to it themselves. A few others may do the same. It might have been someone less kind, less loving than Yves. ] ..I think you'd still trust them, you would offer them a hand, reassurance to let them know at least someone forgives them. Because you still see the good in people.
[ Their gaze flicks up to his face, before back down, quieter. ] And I - if not a number of us, feel that way about you. Forgive you for it, even if...
[ (...You wish he didn't burden himself with it. That he didn't feel like it was up to him. You wish someone else other than Yves did it.) ]
