[ A small laugh. Yeah the situation is grim but it's a little funny to hear him say that. ]
Mm, that's putting it nicely. [ King deserves much more harsher words than jerk. ] Before that though, that was one of the many Houses that the House of Change usually run things. But ever since he took over, everyone in there is frozen and the place is running with Sadnesses.
Sadnesses are... physical manifestations of intense negative emotions. Born from those emotions of people. They've always sorta existed but.. they appear more in dire situations? [ You know like.. war. Or something like the country being frozen in time. ] They attack everything they see so, fighting them off is the only way to deal with them.
[ A head tilt, quiet for a moment to let it sit, looking over at the House. ] House of Change is.... Mmm..... Oh! It's primarily a place of worship for the Change belief.
[ Yeah, but that's valid, as someone that also thinks that Vaugarde is so weird. ]
Mmm.. my friends would probably explain it better, as ones that follow said belief but. I do remember how they explained it. [ Which Siffrin takes a moment to think, peering at the many rounded orb looking people statues. ] It's a religion practiced in most of Vaugarde whose - ideals are about change in both its practitioners and in the world as a whole.
It encourages its practitioners to constantly change things such as their appearances, personalities, interests, and aspects of their life. I know it welcomes anyone, no matter where you're from, allowing anyone to join at any time. [ A very carefree welcoming religion, really. Accepting those that follow other beliefs too. Raises a gloved hand to point at the statues. A large towering one, smaller sized and very tiny ones. The tiny ones being hand sized and are doing a lil dance jiggy. ] That there is their Change god.
[ Yeah, they're doing a little wiggle side to side dance! i'd clip a recording but i'm lazy. It's a white person jingle. ]
Yeah. [ Their voice is mostly neutral but... there's a cold look in their eye. ..Takes a breath in, and out. ] My group was on the way to try and stop him before I ended up here.
That's the hope, yeah. We're the only ones that will be able to do it so.
[ It's all on them! But hmm... Looks around, where should they go? There's a bit to see in this lovely black and white world. Maybe only within the small village but... oh! ] Would you like to see the Favor Tree?
[ Looking inwards towards the village... Siffrin will point to the left! My ass sucks at east and west! Wait nvm wiki says it's to the West YIPPEE. ]
A Favor Tree is just the biggest tree in any given area, according to the House of Change. [ A shrug. They don't quite get it themselves but oh well. ] They say the tree is capable of granting wishes.
[ Realizes I think they're still holding hands. Leads along by the hand holdys. ]
Can't think of any of the top of my head, but it's the kind of thing people wish for in itself, isn't it? The idea that something could grant them anything they want.
[ A head tilt as they listen, a brief expression of confusion, but they can continue on in this grayscale world until they come up on a very large tree. Roots large enough to offer nice seating too. ]
I'll show you. First, you find a leaf. [ Looks around, goes to pluck up a leaf. It isn't real, it isn't really there, but Siffrin remembers the motions like the back of their hand. ] You think of a wish.
[ Takes a moment to think, looking up, before they blow into the leaf gently. ] You blow the wish into the leaf, repeat the wish three times - or, however many times you think feels best. Sometimes I do six, or even seven times.
Fold it closed, that way your wish is safely tucked inside. [ Gently, they fold the leaf closed, and then let the leaf go. ] ..Then you let it go, and the wind will take the wish to be granted.
Hm... well, traditions have a way of spreading, so it wouldn't surprise me too much. [a beat] Though I guess that only applies when it's the same world.
It's a little jarring getting used to the idea of other worlds, huh? Though, with how vast the Universe is, and with the stars and space...
[ Their words trail, staring off, and for a moment they don't say anything else. They blink after a moment, a brief look of confusion, before looking over and offering a smile. ]
There isn't much else to do here at the Favor Tree other than that. Not like we can interact with the dark and lightless birds here.
[ They are just regular looking birds. If just grayscale with no color. Hopping around and offering cute little "piou piou" chirps. ]

... Sounds like a real jerk.

... It does sound like the kind of group a dictator would want to weaken by taking over one of their bases.

I feel like there's a lot of myths out there about granting wishes...
no subject
Mm.. though, your wish can't really be granted unless you do the ritual properly.
no subject
What's the ritual?

... Ah. I thought it was going to be kind of like ema at first, but it's not. [...] It's an interesting ritual.
no subject
[ The only way to do it! Though, curiously looks over. ]
..."Ema"?
no subject
A custom where I'm from. You write your wish on a wooden plaque—that's the ema—and hang it up at a shrine for the gods to receive.

I think I heard something similar in Ka Bue. I only visited it once in my travels though... so I don't remember too much of my stay there.

but since siffrin is not voicing it, he will glance at the birds.]
Anything special about them? They look pretty normal to me.
no subject
A small laugh at that, shaking their head, though their lips curl a little cat-like. You know what's happening. ]
Nope. They're just normal birds. They go "peeou peeou." [ The birds chirp "piou piou." ] They're m-peck-able birds, aren't they?
